Despite being a reluctant runner, I’m slowly edging towards the 5K end of ‘Couch to 5K’. That is, I’ve almost made it past the coffee table… So I’m delighted to have a poem in the anthology The Result is What You See Today edited by Paul Deaton, Kim Moore and Ben Wilkinson, and published by Smith/Doorstop.
To whet your appetite, here are the first couple of stanzas:
RUN
There’s virtue in the air, I sniff it,
snap my eyes awake; called to running
by the lack of traffic noise,
the Sunday shape.
An instant of regret is quickly lost,
I don’t linger in the kitchen door
or frame myself lulled with eggs
and beans, a wodge of papers on the floor…
